If the ground beef is frozen and you are planning to prepare and serve this recipe THE DAY AFTER DELIVERY, then place the package of beef in the refrigerator to defrost overnight and through the next day.

Preparing meal the day of delivery

If the ground beef is frozen and you are planning to prepare and serve this recipe THE DAY OF DELIVERY remove the package from the refrigerator two hours before serving. Remove and set aside white butcher paper surrounding the cryovac packaging. Do not remove the beef from this packaging. With the meat still inside the plastic packaging place it into a bowl in the sink. Run cold water into the bowl, covering the ground beef and let sit for 10 minutes Refill with fresh cold water. Repeat 3 times, every 10 minutes or until the meat is soft and ready to cook.

Remove the beef from the cryovac packaging. Lay the white butcher paper flat on the counter with the shiny side up to protect the counter and use it for your meat prep.

Add a generous dash of salt to the beef and mix well by kneading in your hands. Lay the burger on the paper, and flatten with fingertips from the middle to the edge while rotating the burger. Press in the middle to create a shallow well in the burger. Burgers shrink when cooked so I like to make them close to the size of the bun.

Sprinkle salt into the sauté pan and pour 1 tablespoon of Ariston Extra Virgin Olive Oil into pan. Turn heat to medium, careful not to burn the oil. However, the heat should be high enough so the burgers sizzle when you add them to the pan.

Check the sides of the burger while it is cooking to check for wellness.Cook the burgers anywhere from 3 – 5 minutes on a side.

Pink along a side of a hamburger means it is medium rare. Medium burgers will have no pink color along the outside edge. Well done burgers will typically cook for a total of 10 minutes.

The USDA recommends that 160°F is the safe temperature for consuming cooked beef products.

Top the burger with cheese after flipping and start toasting the buns.

Chef’s Tips:

This recipe is for one but scaling up recipes is easy since dinner baskets come with the right amount of ingredients for the number of guests you are serving.

Use the white butcher paper shiny side up for meat preparation and the checker board paper to prep ingredients for side dishes.

Rinse the tomato under cool water and dry. Using a serrated knife, place it .” from the bottom. Cut a slice from the bottom by sawing carefully through the surface of the skin. Carefully balance the onion on its side and using a serrated knife cut it in half between the two ends. Create slices by placing the knife .” from the cut end and cutting slowly and evenly through the onion. The onion slices can be used raw or sauted in the pan with your burger.
